Below, you will find information about our school staff team.

School Leadership Team

Mrs Southward

When she gets a spare moment she likes nothing more than reading books on her Kindle. She loves books by Mo Hayder, Lee Child and Liane Moriarty, and her favourite book is 'Me Before You', by JoJo Moyes. Her other hobby is spending time with her family. She enjoys watching them play football and rugby on a weekend, taking walks round Pugneys or Hemsworth Waterpark, and going to the cinema!

Mr Berry
Deputy Headteacher

I joined the school as Deputy Headteacher in 2014 and thoroughly enjoy working with the children of Normanton Juniors. I am an Everton fan and love playing football, as well as the occasional round of golf. I also love writing, trying to use the power of language to amuse and entertain. Numbers have always interested me, leading to an office full of graphs and tables. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially going to the beach and playing Pokémon Go.

Mrs Bywater

Mrs Williams
Learning Mentor

Outside school she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, going to the theatre and going on relaxing holidays to hot and sunny destinations. She is a keen swimmer and fitness enthusiast. On a weekend during the summer you won't find her in a local shopping centre but you will find her watching a local game of cricket with a nice, cool drink!

Teaching Team

Mrs black
Year 3 Teacher

When she gets a spare moment, she likes nothing more than shopping, eating or relaxing by watching a film. Even though maths is her absolute favourite, Miss Wright also loves to read- this tends to be in the holidays when she can switch off and relax. Miss Wright enjoys travelling the world and has visited Indonesia, Mexico, Jamaica and America in the last 2 years. With regards to hobbies, Miss Wright seems to take up a new hobby every few months as, so far this year, she has done: boxing, cycling, running and dancing. Let's hope she can find a hobby she can stick to; she is open to suggestions and trying new things!

Mr Clarke
Year 3 Teacher

He loves the performing arts and loves acting in plays and playing a variety of instruments in bands-particularly on drums, which are his true passion. He also loves having fun with his family, reading when he gets the time and walking with his two dogs. His favourite subject is music, but he loves teaching just about every subject on the curriculum!

Mrs Tait
Year 3 Teacher

When not looking after her own mini 'zoo' (dogs, cats, guinea pigs, geckos, bearded dragons and fish) she can be found supporting her favourite rugby team Castleford Tigers with her family. She is passionate about art, enjoys visiting family, eating out and reads whenever she has the time.

MRs Jones
Year 4 TeacheR

In her spare time, she likes to visit new places in her campervan. She particularly enjoys visiting coastal places and enjoys taking long walks on the beach with her dog, Stanley.  She also loves outdoor adventurous activities such as surfing and rock climbing.  On a weekend, she enjoys visiting restaurants or going to the cinema with her family and friends.

Mrs Bowes
Year 4 Teacher

When not working, she loves to spend time with her family, especially her two grandsons. Her other passion is to read books and her favourite books are the ones about the wizard Harry Potter! She also likes to spend time at the shopping centre browsing for new clothes and shoes.

Miss Lynskey
Year 4 Teacher

In her spare time she loves to go shopping and spending time with friends and family. She also plays the violin and loves to go travelling to hot and sunny destinations! She can often be found in Meadowhall or in a nice restaurant!

Mr Young
Year 5 Teacher

When not in work, Mr Young loves nothing more than being in the Yorkshire Dales. So far this year, he has hiked up Snowden (the highest mountain in Wales), Scar Fell Pike (the highest mountain in England) and conquered the "Yorkshire Three Peaks" - he even has the blisters to prove it!

Mr Greatorex
Year 5 Teacher

When he isn't working, Mr Greatorex is usually playing one sport or another. He is a big fan of football and rugby, but plays water polo as his main sport and was lucky enough to represent Great Britain in the past. Mr Greatorex also has a passion for travelling, and had lived in Australia for two years before moving back to the UK and studying to become a teacher.

Miss furness
Year 5 Teacher

Mr Boylan
Year 6 Teacher

His favourite subjects are history, science and geography. He loves the outdoors and any outdoor activities, often spending holidays in the mountains of the Lake District, or hiking across the moors; when it comes to the outdoor activities, you name it and Mr Boylan has probably done it! When he isn't out exploring mountains and moorland, Mr Boylan can often be found exploring museums and castles instead!

Mrs Carthy
Year 6 Teacher

Mrs Carthy loves to run and is always on the lookout for a half marathon that she can train for and take part in. When she is not busy training, she loves to spend family time with her husband and 2 children, enjoying days out and especially having trips to the seaside!

Mrs Stephenson
Year 6 Teacher

Mrs Stephenson loves to spend time with her husband and her young son, enjoying days out and visiting family, who live both near and far. If she does ever get a minute to relax, she likes reading a good book or enjoying the latest box-set on television!

Mr Potter
Year 6 Teacher
I have been a teacher in Portsmouth since 2015 and have recently moved up to Yorkshire from the South Coast. I love exploring my new city and the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, but do miss my family dog and being so close to my favourite place, the sea! I love to cook, especially for my friends and family. My favourite subject is Geography and I have a long list of places, both hot and cold, that I would like to visit.
Mrs  Houghton
Currently on maternity leave

Mrs Houghton loves to relax: walking the dog, doing yoga or curling up with a good book. When she is not doing any of these things she can usually be founding eating in her favourite restaurants or watching a good film at the cinema with her husband!
